A funeral on Detroit's west side was interrupted Monday when a man shot a gun during a morning service, terrifying everyone inside.

Shots rang out at the Swanson funeral home around 10:30 Monday morning, sending those inside scrambling for the door.

"Chaos, that's the best way to put it," Rev. Antonio Harlan told Action News. "Tables, chairs being turned over, people swinging chairs, people fighting, people grabbing, people running."

Mary Moultrie and her daughter were inside trying to make funeral arrangements for a relative. "My daughter grabbed my hand and said, 'Momma, come on, let's go,'" she explained. One or two gunshots went off, Moultrie said.

The interrupted funeral was for a man shot to death last week at the Rouge River. Family members say gunfire has once again disrupted their lives.

"Shots fired at a funeral, and we can't even have a procession and a funeral. It's just a sad thing, man," Shawn Adams, stepbrother of the deceased, said.

Detroit police are still looking for the man who
fired the shots.
